Tribal Midwife or Goddess? The Curious Case of Jade Madamma

This is the story of Jade Madamma who has been helping tribal women in Mysore district in childbirth for the last 50 years! Now, at the age of 65+, Jade recounts the success and hardships encountered as a successful tribal mid-wife.
With the infant mortality rate of 30%, a safe-delivery in her tribal community was literally considered a rebirth for the pregnant women. Under such conditions, Jade Madamma has a track record of more than 1500 safe-delivery cases. She is familiar with more than 200 types of plants and herbs with therapeutical benefits and can provide herbal remedies for more than 20 types of common ailments.
Today she is aptly revered as an angel by the local tribal community.
