Bhutanese Empowerment Project
Yashwant Belsare, Sewa International
Sewa International is a nonprofit organization dedicated to helping humanity in distress. Our Bhutanese Empowerment Program is focused on providing Bhutanese Refugee help to settle in this country and also to preserve, protect their Cultural Heritage. Bhutanese are targeted by other faiths. College-going and high school students have no idea about their rich heritage. Bhutanese Heritage camps for the youths serve to educate them about Hindu roots and value system. Teaching Bhagwat Geeta, Nepali language, conducting summer camps in apartment complexes are some of the examples of their work.
Building relationship with the Bhutanese community is another important goal of BEP. These programs will help Bhutanese Hindu youths in particular to be proud of their identity as Hindus in America. Sewa International also addresses the educational needs of these refugee/immigrant children with one-on-one tutoring. Sewa pursues several educational strategies to equip students with the skills they need to become productive members of the society.
