Inculcating Hindu Culture through Story Telling
Sriram Raghavan, Gurukula.Com
Hindu Culture is rich in values. Our ancestors devised the powerful technique of story telling to teach values to children in an engaging fashion. Story telling connects children to like-minded characters and helps them develop a deep righteous attitude for life.
The art of storytelling is seldom practiced today. Grandparents, who used to be the custodians of story telling don’t live with their grandchildren any longer. Thus, children resort to video games and television.
Gurukula.com is reviving the art of Story-Telling in every home. We took the original Samskritam texts of Mahabharata, Ramayana and Panchatantra and carefully abridged and translated them into English to maintain purity. Every story is written with practical applications for the logic-driven children of the 21st century. We combined this with technology channels including mobile app, iBooks, YouTube & Facebook. We conducted over 500 classrooms and online story telling sessions for over 5000 children in the US and India, aided by colorful comic illustrations. We also train parents to be storytellers. We plan to have virtual classrooms in our mobile platform for grandparents and grandchildren to engage in storytelling.
There has been an overwhelming response to hearing Indian Epics in the artful form of story telling. The portal has received over 200,000 views across 50 countries. In person storytellers have touched the lives of 2000+ children.
